IDL is a complete computing environment for interactive analysis and 
visualization of data. IDL integrates a powerful, array-oriented language
with numerous mathematical analysis and graphical display techniques. 

Programming in IDL is a time-saving alternative to programming in FORTRAN
or C, IDL can interface FORTRAN and C routines.

IDL works on a X-Window screen, a X-terminal, a Work-Station or a X11
emulator is required to use IDL. 


IDL, at IRA is available on all the Dec-Alpha computers with 2 concurrent
licenses.

To start IDL you must enter, at the shell prompt, the command:   idl
