The ISOPHOT Interactive Analysis
		               (PIA)

                            Release 7.2

Is a scientific and calibration data analysis tool for ISOPHOT data reduction.
Based on the language IDL under Xwindows, PIA offers a full context sensitive
graphical interface. Therefore no knowledge of IDL is required. The PIA
software was designed both as a tool for the calibration of the PHT instrument
during and after the ISO mission and as an interactive tool for ISOPHOT data
analysis for general observers.
Therefore there are two versions of PIA, which are almost identical. In the
'general observers version' only the calibration sequences are not contained.

PIA is available on Alpha computers at IRA:

The first time:
--------------

An individual user can define his preferred settings by copying
pia_envi.example (UNIX) file to his individual PIA directory and changing
settings to his gusto and rename it to pia_envi in the UNIX case. The default
places searched by PIA are in this order:

1) the directory you start from,

2) any directory defined by the user to be his main PIA directory.
This is done by defining a "PIA_LOC_IND" environment variable / logical.

3) a directory "pia" directly below the user's root (e.g. ~giovanni/pia ).

Then you can start PIA, any time with the command:
------------------------
       pia

Please note that on Alpha we have only two IDL license, only two user at a
time can use idl (required for PIA),

A on_line manual of PIA is available via WWW at the "Computing Services" item
starting from IRA home page.

(Previous version of pia software is available with command: pia_old)
