All output to the screen can be written to log files. Separate files are written for the output from the control program xronos (log files, extension .log, see command log) and from XRONOS applications (application log files, extension .alog, see global parameter number 3). The level of output to the screen and to the log file of XRONOS applications can be controlled (see global parameter number 1 and 2). XRONOS commands can be written into an ASCII file (script files, extension .xco, see command script) and then invoked from the xronos prompt by using an @ symbol in front of the filename.

The commands recall and reexecute can be used, respectively, to recall a previous command and to reexecute several previous commands in any order. Commands from previous XRONOS session are also accessible through recall. The buffer command will invoke command line recall by using the line recall key on the terminal. The major advantage of this command is that it allows the recalled command to be edited.

In the question/answer user interfaces, each application can be terminated by entering an ``end of file" (cntl z in VMS, cntl d in UNIX) in response to any question, or by entering an interruption (cntl y in VMS, cntl c in UNIX) during execution. XRONOS can be terminated by the bye, exit or quit commands.
